Year 2024: Biggest Gas Reserves Discovery in Pakistan

In the Bannu West Block of North Waziristan, a significant gas discovery was made in 2022 at Shiva One Well, yielding 25 million cubic feet of gas and 300 barrels of oil. Another well, Shiva 2, was drilled to a depth of 4577 meters, resulting in 51 million cubic feet of gas and 391 barrels of oil. This gas field, Mashallah, is considerable in size. On average, Pakistan extracts around 10 million cubic feet of gas per well. However, the Kalat well is exceptional, producing 50 million cubic feet of gas, marking a substantial gas discovery. It is said that this gas field contains trillions of cubic feet of gas. With the success of these two wells, the government aims to benefit the local population. The field has the capacity to provide up to 250 million cubic feet of gas daily and is expected to contribute significantly to Pakistan's gas reserves in the next three to four years.

This is indeed a reason for joy, and there is also an appeal to the government to ensure that the local population in North Waziristan reaps the benefits of this gas field. Maximum jobs should be available there, not just for security guards, not just for cleaners, but also for administrative positions and technical posts. By training the children there, you can cultivate the art of counter-terrorism. Now, this gas field, Inshallah, where we will receive 250 million cubic feet of gas daily, will also provide an annual savings of one and a half billion dollars. This gas field is crucial, and the situation in Pakistan is undergoing a significant change during the next 10 years. This is the first major discovery in the last decade, and it is more substantial than the discovery in Kalat. The conditions in North Waziristan are not very favorable either, with a law and order situation similar to that in Kalat. However, with the success of two wells, it has been confirmed that there is gas present in all formations here. We can use this gas to our advantage, and it can help Pakistan stand on its own feet. This gas discovery is from Mari Petroleum, the largest company producing gas in Pakistan, producing between 850 million to 900 million cubic feet of gas daily. If it loses 100, it still yields 70 in terms of oil or gas. Its success rate is impressive at 70%. In comparison, Pakistan's average oil and gas success rate is 33. Internationally, it is 14.
